How do we make learning meaningful for our students? Short answer: We don’t.
Longer answer: Students determine what is meaningful for themselves. We can, however, provide opportunities for students to engage in learning that may become meaningful for them. What I found in the research of my dissertation was the need for time as students transition their thinking from classroom oriented to meaningful. Of course, time is just one aspect, but it is important and sometimes overlooked.
