I am so excited! Last Spring, I applied for a grant from the California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom. Last week, I found out I have been awarded the grant!
I love to bring new ideas and strategies into my classroom. It keeps teaching exciting and interesting for me, and that reflects enthusiasm toward my students. When I heard about the grant to bring organic agriculture content into the classroom, I thought it sounded intriguing. I wrote the grant and then forgot about it. How exciting to open the email last week to find out I won!
With this award, I will be able to purchase a garden tower and introduce students to organic gardening in the classroom. Then, the students will have a chance to build their own organic gardening system to use at home! We will visit a certified organic farm to learn about the requirements for certification, then work to make the OLE on campus organic and grow food on a portion of it. I am so excited about the opportunities afforded by this grant and the prospect of watching my students learn through another hands on project.
Can you tell I’m excited?!?!
